The first chair of the Orange County Human Relations Commission, Amin David, has died at the age of 83. The longtime Anaheim resident was a founding member of Los Amigos, the Orange County Communities Organized for Responsible Development and Orange County Community Housing Corporation and recently was an active member of the Anaheim police chief’s advisory board.

After initially being barred from wearing “Dump Trump” T-shirts because of safety concerns, a group of Latino students at Newport Harbor High School was allowed to wear the shirts on campus after the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s rally in Costa Mesa. On Friday, representatives of the Orange County Human Relations Commission met with about 60 Newport Harbor students on how to be politically involved while respecting one another’s differences.

Read more →On May 5, 2016 OC Human Relations will honor the outstanding work of local individuals and groups, and the Disneyland Resort at its 45th Annual AWARDS Celebration and fundraiser at the City National Grove of Anaheim. Also among the honorees is a group of mothers, grandmothers, aunts and role models from West Anaheim. These Orange County residents have banded together to urge their neighbors and landlords to rebuild their community and drive out gang activity and violence in order to build a clean, united and safe community that can ensure that youth there will have the opportunity for a bright future.

In a statement, the OC Human Relations Commission said that in the face of the heinous terrorist attacks on innocent people in Belgium its first thoughts and prayers go out to victims lost and suffering from this senseless act of violence. The Commission urged the community to be thoughtful and reasoned in its reactions and to avoid provoking misdirected hate or sweeping measures that victimize innocent people.
