After a spate of hate activity, including white nationalist leafletting, and attacks targeting Asian Americans OC Human Relations Council is asking local organizations and leaders to sign a statement of solidarity. So far, the statement has over 170 signatories.

Where do we go from here? After writing statements of support and solidarity over the summer, many organizations are ready to take the next steps in creating equitable workplaces. But fear of making mistakes and inexperience have become barriers to action. In 2021, OC Human Relations will begin a new program to support organizations in taking their next steps to address racial equity.

We’re excited to announce that OC Human Relations has been chosen by the LA Clippers Foundation to compete in the LA Clippers Foundation Charity Challenge!
The LA Clippers Foundation Charity Challenge, in partnership with Kia, is dedicated to raising money and awareness for non-profits in the Greater Los Angeles/Orange County area. It will runs from Friday, November 16 through Friday, December 14 at 3pm and during that time $150,000 and a Kia automobile will be given away in the form of three grand prizes and weekly Bonus Challenges.
The events of this weekend send us once again into the shock and grief that has become familiar in a way once thought unimaginable. And while we unequivocally condemn this heinous targeting of our Jewish friends for no other reason than who they are; And while we have, and will always, stand in solidarity with the Jewish Community; We know more must be done.

In the category of Community Oriented Policing, we are honoring the Sheriff for her creation of an Inter Faith Advisory Council. We are aware that community members have well-articulated concerns over decisions and policies the Sheriff has authored, this is one particular initiative that we felt has been positive and wanted to show case as the type of engagement that we value.

At the meeting of the Orange County Board of Supervisors held on March 27, 2018, numerous residents of the county came to address the Board, demonstrating a high level of civic engagement and a wide spectrum of perspectives.
Unfortunately, the meeting dissolved into hostility, name-calling and scapegoating. Such vitriol plainly impedes the ability of people – like-minded or not – to work together. This weakens our ability to address issues like homelessness and immigrant integration, and communicates the wrong message to our children.

OC Human Relations wrote to the Brea Olinda School District to thank them for agreeing to investigate the name of William E. Fanning Elementary and whether it should be changed and encouraging them to carefully weigh the impact of their decision, knowing that this moment is another in our county’s history where we can be an example to so many of the power of righting wrongs and healing communities.
