OC Human Relations Statement in response on the recent mass shootings in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay

Here at OC Human Relations, we grieve the mass shootings in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay, Calif. We send our deepest condolences to the friends and family who have lost loved ones and we are steadfast in our solidarity with the communities that have been impacted by these shootings.

In the last few years AAPI communities have been repeatedly impacted by divisive hate and senseless violence. In particular, we recognize that, due to the timing of the incidents coinciding with Lunar New Year as well as the majority of the victims being of Asian descent, these incidents have deeply impacted our AAPI friends and neighbors in Orange County and communities across the country. This violence must stop.

We at OC Human Relations are here to support our community and provide an inclusive and safe environment for everyone. We are working to identify and expose the root causes of tension by creating listening spaces in the hope that we can inspire and nurture community-focused strategies to eliminate hate.
