OC Human Relations has been providing community mediation services in the OC Superior Courts for over 20 years. Volunteers and staff resolve over 1,200 cases annually, free of charge.
Bianca Torres, a Communications Studies major graduating from Cal State University Long Beach this spring, just completed her OC Human Relations Dispute Resolution Internship. Since January, Bianca has devoted her time at both OCHR and the North Justice Center, gaining key experience in mediation and negotiation skills in the field of dispute resolution. She thanks Dr. Pamela Kreiser for exposing her to this opportunity, and credits OCHR and their Basic Mediation Training for giving her hands-on training and experience in real life court scenarios and casework, which will be invaluable in her career path.
Another student wrapping up her internship with OC Human Relations is Veronica Dang, a Social Policy and Public Service Major at UC Irvine. During her internship, Veronica observed and mediated small claims cases, exposing her to diverse scenarios and developing the skills necessary to amicably resolve conflict amongst individuals. Veronica credits her experience with OCHR for teaching her to see both perspectives of a situation, and act more empathetically and open minded toward others. She is now off to our nation’s capital, Washington D.C., to intern with UCDC. We wish you the best of luck, Veronica, and thank you for going above and beyond during your time with OCHR! We appreciate your support in our mission to foster mutual understanding among residents and eliminate prejudice, intolerance and discrimination to make Orange County a better place for all.
Thank you, Bianca and Veronica, for your reliability and dedication to OCHR’s mission to make Orange County a better place for ALL people to live, work, go to school, and do business. Together, we can build a #HateFreeOC.
