In May of this year, Jonah Mowry was a recipient of an OC Human Relations’ Diverse Community Leader Award for his courageous efforts at preventing the bullying of gay youth. On November 15, Jonah will be the keynote speaker at the opening of OC Human Relations’ sold-out youth conference, Walk In My Shoes. Walk in My Shoes is being held at California State University, Fullerton. The conference theme is “I Have a Dream…” in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream’ speech. This year over 550 students and teachers signed up within the first 48 hours of registration being open, a new record!

In August 2011, 14-year-old Jonah, a Lake Forest resident, posted a heart-wrenching video on YouTube. In this video, which has now been viewed by more than 10 million people worldwide, Jonah poignantly describes his despair and turmoil at being bullied for being gay. Since then, Jonah has started an advice video-series watched by tens of thousands of people, had led and participated in public marches to bring attention to this issue and has become a national spokesperson for bullied youth. There is no telling how many young lives he has saved by his courage. He has made a tremendous difference in the lives of so many people—young and old alike.
