Some students in Newport Harbor High School’s BRIDGES program have felt stress and tension on their campus through the last few months of the election campaign. In one case, students on opposing ends of the political spectrum saw their friendship torn apart because of their opposing views on the candidates.
BRIDGES staff worked with both students during our Restorative Justice circles/mediation work on campus- their friendship is now repaired and they are role models for the campus, promoting friendship and understanding despite our differences.
Another recent election-related initiative at Newport Harbor High School had BRIDGES students making posters promoting unity and posting them all over campus, so that students could see the message the day after election.
A shout-out to the students and BRIDGES staff for their maturity and big hearts!
