OC Human Relations was extremely gratified at decision the Board of Supervisors made on November 17, 2015. The Board of Supervisors voted 5 to 0 in support of buying the Kraemer building in Anaheim and opening it as a Multi-Service Homeless Shelter, hopefully, the first of a few.
At the November 17 hearing, a great mobilization started to turn the tide with more than 70% of the testimony supporting the shelter at Eastside Christian. Thanks to The Peace and Justice Committee of the Diocese, OCCCO , the Poverty Task Force, the interfaith community, homeless and housing advocates, and elected officials and Police Chiefs from all of the North OC cities.
Thanks too, to Karen Roper, the County’s Community Services Director and lead staff on the Multi-Service Homeless Shelter and her Chief of Staff, Julia Bidwell, for their determination and energy in seeing this effort through.
OC Human Relations has been a steadfast supporter of the creation of a multi-service homeless shelter for a number of years.
