Over 600 students and teachers from schools across Orange County attended the day-long Walk In My Shoes youth conference, November 16, at the University of California, Irvine.
The conference was emceed by students Candice Brown of Cypress High School, Ralex Gutierrez of Magnolia High School and Moon Pankam of Capistrano Valley High School. The morning keynote speech was delivered by Kathy Tran of Los Amigos High School and the afternoon keynote by Christian Lopez, the OC Human Relations’ 2012 YouthSpeak contest winner.
Students attended three one-hour workshops, choosing from over 20 different thought provoking sessions with topics ranging from bullying, immigration, gender issues and suicide prevention. Youth and experienced human relations presenters shared their insights, experiences and expertise. Entertainment was provided by UC Irvine’s Bhangra Team, “Rangla Punjab.”
