Overview

We have a long history of engaging and empowering residents to address human relations issues in their communities and giving them the tools and skills to address those issues.  We do this through community dialogues, education, advocacy, community capacity-building initiatives, and leadership development.

Our agency also contracts with the OC Board of Supervisors to provide staff support for the OC Human Relations Commission to fulfill their mission to eliminate prejudice, intolerance, and discrimination.  Additionally, we partner with cities to bring diverse people together to address challenging human relations problems when they arise.

Community Dialogues

OC Human Relations has been building understanding and respect through dialog initiatives for over 35 years by bringing diverse groups together such as faith groups, police and communities, parents and neighbors.  Sessions held over the past few years include Sikh and Muslims Listening Sessions, African American Listening Sessions  and most recently Listening Sessions with the Transgender Community.

We can also provide materials and facilitator trainings to lead intercultural, interfaith or neighborhood dialogues and can design curriculum for communities wanting to explore community issues at a deeper level.

Human Relations Education

We offer comprehensive diversity training as well as custom tailored trainings and presentations in the areas of diversity, intercultural communication, gender, identity, conflict resolution, team building and other human relations topics. Click here to see a list of trainings offered.

Advocacy

In our advocacy work we assist victims of hate and discrimination, increase public awareness of local and global human relations, work with local government to develop policy and protocol, form coalitions and take action to assure that underrepresented communities in Orange County have a voice in the institutions that effect their lives. We provide capacity building technical assistance in the areas of Leadership Development, Organizational Development, Community Assessment and Problem Solving, Strategic Planning and Community Engagement.

Leadership Development Training

OC Human Relations is a certified trainer of the PEW Foundation for Civic Change Curriculum and Community for All Ages Leadership Training and has offered this training to communities throughout Orange County.  We also tailor leadership trainings for communities in both Spanish and English.

Our Parent Leadership Institute trains parents to navigate the school system and be advocates for their children’s education. We also offer a Parent Leadership Institute Training of Trainers with the purchase of our curriculum for groups of 20 or more available in Spanish and English.
