YouthSpeak 2020

OC Human Relations’ annual YouthSpeak Speech & Essay Contest features a county-wide search for the top human relations speech and essay written by middle & high school students.


The theme for 2020 was “Achieving Justice”, High School students were invited to submit a short, inspirational speech on what justice means to them and how it can be achieved, while Middle School students were asked to submit an essay on the same topic.

After reading through a multitude of high-quality entries and listening to the speeches of the short-listed students, the Board of OC Human Relations made the following decisions:

1st place – Emy Chen, Oak Middle School

2nd place – Maisha Ingraham, Brookhurst Junior High School

3rd place – Minh Nguyen, Dale Junior High School

High School Speech Contest: (click on students’ name to read their speech)

 1st place – Amber Juarez, Huntington Beach High School

2nd place – Heedong Mike Lee, Garden Grove High School

3rd place – Keyon Namdar, Crean Lutheran High School
