OC Human Relations is very pleased to announce that at today’s Board of Supervisors meeting (June 13, 2017) Supervisors Spitzer, Bartlett, Nelson and Do voted IN FAVOR of funding our nonprofit to fulfill the Commission contract for one year!  This means that the non-profit will not need to immediately leave its offices on Grand Ave in Santa Ana and that the three staff positions that service the Commission are safe for the next twelve months.

First, a big THANK YOU to all of the people we serve who came out, sent messages, called, and spoke up for us.  From Sheriff Hutchens to the OC Police Chiefs Association, from Laura Kanter and the LGBT Center to the Council on American Islamic Relations, from the Anti-Defamation League to the OC Business Council, from our influential Community Partners to our amazing Board of Directors and dedicated Staff, from Commissioners to Pastor Mark Whitlock, diverse community and faith leaders, and so many more we can’t do them all justice.

The 350 plus folks who came to the meetings of the Board of Supervisors, and the 82 of them who addressed the Board with their varied perspectives on the importance of OC Human Relations responding to hate crime, stepping up against school bullying, resolving large community conflicts, and small disputes.  It was heart-warming to see and hear the messages of people whose lives were changed by OC Human Relations and the Commission.

Our sincere thanks to all the individuals and organizations that spoke out on our behalf and to the Board of Supervisors for ratifying the contract.

Stay tuned for more details as we move ahead on developing a shared vision with the Commissioners and work to address some of the concerns of the Board of Supervisors.
